小田部良生(Otabe, Yoshitaka)

美術家／映像作家。

日本を拠点に、アメリカ、ニュージーランド、ヨーロッパを横断しながら活動。

ファインアートを起点に、映像、身体表現、時間性を伴う表現へと領域を拡張し、個人の記憶や再生、存在の変容を主題に制作を行っている。

1990年代よりアメリカでファインアート分野の評価を受け、1997年には米国サンマテオ・カウンティ・フェア＆フローラル・フェスタ・ファインアート・コンペティションにて入賞。その後、日本大学芸術学部デザイン学科に在籍し、基礎造形および美術理論を学ぶ。

2000年代初頭にはニュージーランドへ渡り、Auckland University of Technology（AUT）にてアート＆デザインを学び、国際的な制作環境の中で映像表現へと活動領域を拡張。2007年には短編映画『REBORN』を監督し、ニュージーランドで開催されたBig Mountain Short Film FestivalにてOfficial Selectionに選出される。

近年は、映像と身体、時間的構造を横断する表現を軸に、国際映画祭やアートプライズへの出品を重ね、2022年にはLuxembourg Art Prizeにて芸術功労証書を授与されるなど、ヨーロッパにおいても評価を受けている。

メディアやジャンルの境界を固定せず、ファインアートと映像の双方の文脈において、作品の発表と再解釈を継続している。

Artist / Filmmaker

Yoshitaka Otabe is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Japan, whose practice spans fine art, moving image, and time-based expression. Working across cultural and geographical contexts including the United States, New Zealand, and Europe, his work explores themes of memory, rebirth, embodiment, and transformation.

Otabe began gaining recognition in the United States in the 1990s, receiving an award at the San Mateo County Fair & Floral Fiesta Fine Arts Competition in 1997. He later studied design and fine art at Nihon University College of Art in Japan, where he developed a strong foundation in visual structure and artistic theory.

In the early 2000s, he relocated to New Zealand and studied Art and Design at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), expanding his practice into moving image and cinematic expression within an international creative environment. In 2007, he directed the short film REBORN, which was selected as an Official Selection at the Big Mountain Short Film Festival in New Zealand.

In recent years, Otabe’s work has continued to be presented in international contexts across both art and film platforms. In 2022, he was awarded a Certificate of Artistic Achievement by the Luxembourg Art Prize, recognizing the artistic quality and international relevance of his work.

Positioned between fine art and cinema, Otabe’s practice resists fixed categorization, instead emphasizing continuity between visual art, the body, and temporal experience.
